The Diesel Engine Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered equipment and machinery operating within the terminal.
The role ensures that all terminal vehicles and heavy equipment remain in safe, efficient, and reliable working condition to support continuous operations.
The Diesel Engine Mechanic will work closely with the maintenance team and operations personnel to minimise downtime and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
· Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on diesel engines and terminal equipment, including trucks, trailers, generators, forklifts, reach stackers, cranes, and other heavy machinery as applicable.
· Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using appropriate testing equipment and technical manuals.
· Perform engine overhauls, component replacements, and adjustments on diesel-powered machinery.
· Inspect equipment to identify damage, leaks, or other defects and take corrective action as required.
· Undertake preventive maintenance in line with planned schedules to reduce breakdowns and operational disruptions.
· Respond promptly to equipment break downs within the terminal and carry out emergency repairs when needed.
· Maintain service and repair records accurately, including parts used, work completed, and equipment condition reports.
· Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety procedures, company policies, and terminal operational requirements.
· Use tools, diagnostic devices, and workshop equipment correctly and safely.
· Assist in troubleshooting issues related to engines, fuel systems, transmissions, braking systems, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
· Support inspections, audits, and compliance checks related to maintenance activities.
· Coordinate with supervisors, operators, and other maintenance personnel to prioritise repairs and keep terminal operations running efficiently.
· Maintain good housekeeping standards in the workshop and work areas.
· Carry out other maintenance-related duties as assigned by management in line with the role.
